This skin is a semi-ficticious one that I started making early in the HR P47 project (Also the first model aircraft I ever built, 21 years ago, and I still have the model and the box!). It SHOULD be an early D razorback model, but I decided the skin looked nice enough on these 3dz's even though it wasn't historically accurate - who knows, there may have been a bubble top that looked similar to this...

Anyway, the skin 'represents' "Spirit of Atlantic City N.J.", a P-47 D 25, of the 63rd FS, 56th FG, flown by Walker "Bud" Mahurin, who was the first US double ace in Europe, and was competing for the group's top ace position until he was forced to bail out of this aircraft over France in March 1944. With the aid or the French underground, he made his way back to England, but due to his knowledge of the Underground, was never allowed to fly over Europe again. He later flew with the 3rd Air Commando Group in the pacific, and ended the war as a P-51 squadron commander, having achieved 19 3/4 aerial victories in Europe and an additional kill in the Pacific, and later scored another 3 1/2 victories in an F-86 in Korea.

High Resolution P-47 D 25 for European Air War.

AT last it's finished! I've given the standard EAW P-47 D the HR treatment, and hopefully it comes up to your expectations. The previous EAW P-47 was a later M version with the extended rudder fin, while this one has been totally re-mapped to accurate (They'd better be!) line drawings of a P-47 D 25 RE, and the shape has been adjusted to suit. Apart from going Hi-res with total non mirroring, the mods to the standard 3dz are: -
- Landing gear has been re-worked for better gear door detail and open wheel bays.
- Cockpit has been reshaped, using the Tempest cockpit as a starting point.
- Nose has been reshaped to try and give a more rounded, eliptical look.
- Tail/fuselage/wing shape has been modified to represent the P-47 D 25 a bit better.
- Turbo/supercharger fairing added.
- Illu type radio wire.
- Gunst type transparent shadow.
- Damaged TOW FX added
- Hires non mirrored wingview to suit the new wingshape.

This aircraft has had substantial modifications to most of the 3dz's, so here's the file list for anyone who's interested.

CREDITS.
Thanks and big pats on the back go to :-
- Dean H for helping me with his skinning expertise, for ideas on the shape, for his constant enthusiasm, and for his positive and happy outlook on the project and life in general. It's been a pleasure doing business with you Dean!
- Col Gibbon for providing the idea of using line drawings for the mapping and shaping of the aircraft. Hopefully I got it close!
- Salty for providing the line drawings,
- Salty for suggesting that I look at using the Typhoon cockpit,
- Winger69 and Serb for the starting 3dz (though it looks somewhat different now!)

As always, there are a few RS bugs and things that I am currently unable to fix. My apologies for that. If you have any comments, problems, hate-mail etc, don't hesitate to contact me.

'til then, Enjoy!
